Telly Savalas

Born: 21 January 1924, Garden City, Long Island, New York, USA
Died: 22 January 1994, Universal City, California, USA

Savalas appeared in several Euro-Westerns, but will always be most associated with the television series 'Kojak'.

Just prior to his first appearance as the detective, in the TV film 'The Marcus-Nelson Murders', he played the 'Devil' in Mario Bava's 'Lisa and the Devil'. At the time he was trying to give up smoking and Bava suggested that he try sucking on a lollipop instead. He can be seen constantly with a lollipop in his mouth throughout the film, and subsequently this became his trademark as Kojak.

Other memorable roles were in 'The Dirty Dozen', 'Kelly's Heroes' and as James Bond's nemesis Blofeld in 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service'.
