Charles Southwood

Born: 30 August 1937, Los Angeles, California, USA.

Many spaghetti western fans will remember Charles Southwood for his role as the poetry reading gentleman gunfighter Sabbath in 'I am Sartana, Trade Your Guns for a Coffin' - he only appears for the last half of the film, but this is enough to completely steal the limelight from his co-stars - no mean feat when playing along side George Hilton. His performance is equally enjoyable as the Russian Alexi, in 'Heads You Die ... Tails I Kill You', who plays a balalaika (with concealed gun, of course).

Following his acting career, Southwood was founder and president of the ironic Death Tobacco Company, and is an anti-smoking campaigner.

(Much thanks must go to Robert Monell for recently tracking down the elusive Mr.Southwood - his interview can be found in Tom Bett's 'Western All'Italiana' fanzine, Issue 60 'The Return of Charles Southwood'- an issue devoted to the actor.)
