Q: Can anyone experience this phenomenon for themselves?
A: Everyone is different. Some people are so closely tied to their conscious minds that they will never have this experience. Their conscious minds will simply not shut down until they are sure the person is sound asleep. These people tend to dream very little too.
Q: What type of person Projects best?
A: The fact is that regular projectors tend to be highly strung nervous individuals even if they dont show it. They are often the people with a million and one things on their minds. The conscious mind loses little time in shutting down at bedtime, maybe as little as ten minutes, leaving the subject at the mercy and excesses of the unconscious.
Q: Am i likely to see ghosts, ghouls and assorted horrors out there?
A: There is no straight answer to this. What you experience depends largely on you as an individual. Are you a nasty, evil type, who wants to destroy everything around you, your mind eaten away with evil intentions? My advice is dont go. Remember, astral travel is an inner rather than an outer journey. What you encounter here is directly fuelled by your own pysche. The unconscious mind is more powerful than the biggest bomb in the world today. An evil man wandering about in its fathomless recesses is simply asking for trouble. Its a bit like a wasp landing on your cheek. It might sting you: Then again it might not: The crucial thing to know and understand is that if the wasp does sting you it will be because you swatted him first!
Q. How will I know if I'm too evil to risk it?
A: Very few people are really evil. I'm not talking about the kind of people who fiddle the books at the local takeaway or having been having the odd liason with the buxom blonde at number 23 while their partner's out at work. I'm talking evil. Think of Hitler and Stalin and Pol Pot and you'll be getting there. Of course there is another way of looking at it. YOU ARE GOING THERE ANYWAY. Either soon or when you die, so it might be a good idea to try and sort it out before you go. After all, how many people are likely to ever get an opportunity like that?
Q: Isn't this all potentially dangerous?
A: You will never be harmed despite some of the rubbish you may have read in books and on web pages. During an oob the conscious mind is shut-down and you are dealing directly with the unconscious mind, the essential YOU! The problem is that the unconscious mind has no safety valves. If you feel something or hear something out of the ordinary in this state and think about alien abductions or some such nonsense, then yes the unconscious will quickly fill in the blanks and you will be abducted by aliens. Think of a railway worker sitting on the live rail eating his sandwiches. If you look carefully you will see this quite often. The only reason this man is not zapped by 750 volts DC is because of the rubber soled boots he wears. During an oob you still get to wear your safety boots, it's just that the soles are a good deal thinner than they would normally be.
Q: Isn't there a danger of being permanently "locked out"?
A: No not a chance. Remember the conscious mind is only sleeping. And believe me it is a light sleeper. At the slightest alarm from you the conscious will be fully operational in fractions of a second and only too happy to drag you back to the real world.
Q: What about this life support cord i've heard about?
A: Yes there is a cord (or something) linking the real you to your physical body. In my oobes i have never seen it once in over thirty years of projection but I usually feel it. Imagine an immensley strong hand gripping you from around the area of the lowest part of the spine, hanging onto some invisible handle. I really dont know what it is. Some say it is a kind of spiritual umbilical cord. Something perhaps that astronauts might have to use on space walks. I am certain it will not be there when you finally pass over.
Q: I read you can reach other dimensions with astral projection. Is this true?
A: Maybe you can. Personally I wouldn't know another dimension if i fell over it. Besides you couldn't possibly explore all the avenues that exist in this world if you spent an entire lifetime looking around every single night. If I ever do find another dimension i'll post it here first!
Q: Isn't this honestly just a load of old baloney!
A: If you'd asked me this before I was 14 I would have agreed with you completely. Sometime during that year I experienced a projection that terrified me. A: The honest truth is....there is no big secret, although the occultists and mystics who earn a very nice living from the subject, thankyou very much, would have you believe that you have to be gifted, pychic, undertake years of training or be a fully paid up member of a long lost Tibetan monastary..... unless of course you opt for the easy route and buy their book.
