International Year of Astronomy
At the “Year of Astronomy” meeting, 3 members of the club presented talks. Stephen Hill talked about the Apollo programme – emphasising the massive challenge faced by America in putting men on the moon, he also gave a short summary of the manned Apollo missions. Club treasurer, Brian Cottis gave a presentation on the features of the moon. The talk explained which features of the moon are most interesting at different times during the Lunar cycle. Finally, Bob Leon talked about the life of Galileo, as it is 400 years since he made his historical observations using a telescope. The talk went into how Galileo travelled throughout Italy seeking out benefactors and supporters for his scientific work.
