The Life and Death of Stars Part I by Bob Leon
In a change to the 5th March meeting programme, our chairman Bob Leon gave Part I of a two Part presentation on the subject of 'The Life and Death of Stars'. He began, noting that the stars are extremely long lived and those seen by great, great grandparents are the same ones that would be seen tonight. The question was "How do scientists determine how stars are born. live and die when nothing appears to change". He went on to say how significant a star's mass is and how this is measured. The mass/luminosity relationship was discussed and how these factors related to a given star's lifetime. The second part of this talk will be given in September.
