Origins of Life on Earth by David Peachey

At the CDAA monthly meeting held on 4th June one of our members David Peachey gave a presentation entitled 'The Origin of Life on Earth'. He began by emphasizing the complexity of life and detailing the chemical make up of DNA and noting how proteins were chains of amino acids placed in precise order and folded in very specific ways. There was a discussion on how the structures of cells revealed the presence of specific components that may have been introduced at different stages of their evolution. The presentation concentrated upon the mechanisms that would have to develop in order for the process of evolution to get a foothold and David, speaking as a chemist commented upon their probability.
