The Sun Part I - Structure and Influence by Bob Leon
The October meeting had our A.G.M. with the main event being Part I of a talk about the Sun by Bob Leon, the newly elected Chairman. Although a lot of information had to be disseminated as part of the A.G.M, it was dealt with in a concise and organized manner. The first official act of the new Chairman was to formally thank the departing Chairman Peter Carlo for his excellent and highly able Chairmanship over the last number of years.Following a short interva,l Bob launched into his presentation for the evening entitled 'The Sun - Part I Structure and Influence. He detailed the Sun's structure and features in a well prepared and well received talk. Further, he spoke of the phenomena that we observe as a result of it's presence such as aurora and of other physical characteristics including the Sunspot Cycle and Solar Flares. In Pat II to be given next month Bob will discuss the Sun's nuclear power plant and the processes that result from this.
The Next Meeting
The next meeting will be held on November 6th 2008 as usual at the 'Friends Meeting House' in Granville Road, Clacton. Bob Leon will give the second and final part of his talk on the Sun entitled 'Power and Process'. Please note that new members and visitors are always welcome at these meetings. Visitors are very welcome but are charged a fee of £2.00.
