The Sun Part II - Power and Process by Bob Leon

At the November meeting held on the 6th, we changed the order events for the evening beginning with our Secretary David Pugh, giving the Night Sky presentation. It was his first time using graphical computer software instead of our usual overhead projection slides. The change was well received and will be a regular feature of our meetings in the future. Later the Chairman Bob Leon, gave the main presentation of the evening which was the continuation of his talk on the Sun. In this Part II, he described the Sun's power source and showed how nuclear fusion was the only process by which it would shine for the billions of years it is known to have been in existence. He went on to explain how the process is controlled and how it is likely to change as the hydrogen fuel source runs out. The consequences of this will be the subject of a future presentation.

The Next Meeting

The next meeting will be held on December 4th 2008 as usual at the 'Friends Meeting House' in Granville Road, Clacton. David Pugh will host our Annual Christmas Quiz. Please note that new members and visitors are always welcome at these meetings. Visitors are very welcome but are charged a fee of £2.00".
