The talk given by one of our members at the January meeting was entitled 'The Apollo Missions Re-visited'. It was a bit of a nostalgia trip for those of us that had witnessed the events on television. With many of the main features of the moon and the Apollo landing sites being identified from maps and slides, it became obvious how truely dangerous the mssions were. Mountainous terrain, especially at the later landing sites, was hazardous and required considerable piloting skills to place the landers, for instance, in narrow gullies. The achievements of those involved, expecially with craft that would nowadays be considered extremely primitive, cannot be understated.
The next meeting to be held as usual at the 'Friends Meeting House' in Granville Road, Clacton will be on 3rd February. Presentations will be given regarding the use of some of our members portable telescopes.
