The first meeting after the Summer break held on 2nd September had a presentation entitled 'The Chemistry of the Solar System'.
In a well researched and informative talk, we were told how the behaviour and properties of everyday materials change radically in the extreme environments of the planets in the Solar System.
A discussion of the evidence for the past presence of water on Mars for instance, resulted in a very lively debate. It bought home to many of us, the very 'Alien' and counter-intuitive nature of the processes that occur throughout the Solar System.
The next meeting to be held as usual at the 'Friends Meeting House' in Granville Road, Clacton will be on 7th October and will include a mercifully short 'AGM' together with the main talk of the evening for those interested in Obsevational Astronomy. The presentation is entitled 'A Messier Marathon'
