Mankinds Future in the Solar System by David Peachey

The monthly meeting held on 4th May had as our main event David Peachey giving a talk entitled 'Mankinds Future in the Solar System'.The talk took the form of a general discussion with audience participation. Topics covered included the problems of wieghlessness during a long term spaceflight leading to bone loss, muscular atrophy and dehydration to the pro's and con's of robotic verses manned exploration. There were questions concerning whether the Moon or Mars should be the first target for a manned mission and how the journey should be made. Finally, the feasibility and/or need to 'terraform' Mars or Venus was discussed.

The Next Meeting

The next meeting to be held as usual at the 'Friends Meeting House' in Granville Road, Clacton on June 1st will have a very special guest speaker - Professional Astronomer, Nial Tanvir. His talk is entitled 'Mass and Mystery in M31'
