Practical Astronomy Part I

With the majority of CDAA members being 'armchair astronomers', the April 5th meeting gave those who actually go out into the cold night air and observe the sky a chance to have their say. Our chairman Peter Carlo, took centre stage and spoke about how to prepare for a nights observation. Since the best conditions (dark sky, interesting objects etc.) occur during the Winter months, he commented upon the need for warm clothing including gloves and hat. The discussion included advice on the equipment and accessories needed to overcome common problems. Other members with observing experience offered additional advice. Although Peter's 8" reflecting telescope was too large and bulky to set up at the meeting, he did bring a small 'Meade' EXT 90 telescope. Bob Leon bought one along as well so both were set up outside to allow members to view the night sky through them.

The Next Meeting

The next meeting will be held as usual at the 'Friends Meeting House' in Granville Road, Clacton on May 3rd 2007. There will be a presentation by David Peck on 'The History of Pluto'. Other items include a short talk on the Constellation of Leo.
