Flowers of Darkness: Characters

These are the heroes and heroines who dare to adventure in the streets and alleys of the Golden City of Huzuz, and beyond, seeking to write their names into the book of Legends, and leave a treasure-house of fame behind them.

May their scimitars shine, may their spells never fail, may their cunning sleights go unnoticed by the most attentive of watchmen.

Adjan al Aqbar

Formerly of Hiyal, City of Intrigue, Adjan is a holy warrior, a temple guard at the Great Mosque of Najm in Huzuz. Taller than most, with powerful broad shoulders and a trim athletic waist, his movements are deliberate, graceful, and powerful. Adjan's dedication to mastery of the blade is reflected in the corded power of his forearms and shoulders. When on duty, he wears dark leathers and a scaled leather and engraved bone cuirass under a Temple tabard. At other times, bronze silk robes and a blood-red sash is is favored apparel. He is never without 'Fate', his strange Khopesh.

Akbar Minjisan

Akbar is a very fat and short halfling with a birght red and gold fex on his head. He is completely bald and has no facial hair. After leaving home he spent time in Qawa living on his wits before becoming apprentice to the city's third finest barber. A misunderstanding over his innocent connections with a gang of Corsair smugglers led to his sudden departure from Qawa, and Akbar now seeks to recover his fortunes and establish himself in Huzuz.

Ismail al Zothari

Ismail is a son of a elvish merchant family of Huzuz, but unlike his brothers he had little interest in sitting in a back room all day adding up numbers. His father, despairing of ever getting him to settle down with a respectable job, decided to try and use his wanderlust to the family's benefit. He sent Ismail out to escort several of the family's shipments of cargo. Ismail, always fond of a good story, naturally gravitated towards the mercenaries and askari who were guarding the shipments. Now, seeking further independence from his family, Ismail has taken on a new career: adventurer.

Khalid ibn Jamal

Khalid was born to Farid and Farida, near the Al-Sarif river overlooking the Caliph's harbor, in Huzzuz. During his youth he played around the docks whilst his parents moved freight and gambled. After two years as a cabin boy on the Zakhara Dolphin, and a period of education, Khalid joined a successful rescue party searching for the missing daughter of a minor merchant. Meanwhile, his father won a small shop playing dice, and Khalid assists his father in the shop until his wanderlust gets the better of him again.

Lana beni Daj Bahara

Lana was born into the Al Badia family of Daj Bahara, the only daughter in a steady line of boys. Happy and carefree to those that first meet her, Lana has a ready smile and a dauntless spirit. Impulsive at times, she can sometimes be found at the bottom of a prank. Having little contact with 'city folk' Lana pities the women for what she deems a thankless existence. To her, freedom is everything. She has come to Huzuz on the advice of her family, to seek an answer among the Al Hadhar to a mystery that has baffled them all.

Naj al Nisr

A tall half-elven Al-Badian, dressed in the colors of the desert. His lithe, powerful frame and noble features speak to his mixed heritage. Confident, intelligent and calm, Naj is a proficient tracker and desert rider who rarely allows himself to lose control in battle. His combat style emphasizes movement and maneuver, and his weapons and armor reflect this. He is friendly but somewhat introverted, having had to rely solely on himself for so long. He is comfortable only in the desert, preferring the vast open space to life within a city.

Qelbi

An elven youth, his face and body bearing unusual tattoos, Qelbi mithla Ruhat Allaila is a stranger to Huzuz. On his left cheek is a stylized orange flower bisected by a scimitar. Beautiful and androgynous, he wears a desert keffiyeh over his head, but his demeanour is not entirely Al-Badian. He carries a dusty old leather backpack which he treats with some care. His origins are entirely mysterious.
