This site is aimed at members of the CTC living in the Leeds area, and any other cyclist interested in the CTC's activities.
Coming events in which riders from Leeds CTC will (probably) take part are:
LCAG have a ride on 12th July from Steeton station to Slaidburn, about 60 miles. Add about 22 miles if you're cycling out from Leeds - and leave in time for the 08:30 start from the station!
Before that, on Sunday 5th July York CTC are organising some 'challenge' rides in memory of Peter Gray, a very active cyclist, runner, organiser and volunteer who died just over a year ago. Advance booking was advised, but you might well be able to enter on the line for the 102km ride, cost £5. That starts at 10:00 from Tockwith Village Hall, or alternatively join Leed CTC riding out from the Dexter pub at Slaid Hill at 08:00.
Further ahead, we've been asked to let you know of the Dawn till Dusk Challenge 100 which is an event starting and finishing in Leeds on Sunday August 30th (bank holiday weekend). This is being organised and run by Charity Adventure, a not-for-profit organisation run entirely by volunteers. They recently ran one of the CTC York Cycle Show family day rides.
In teams of 2-4 (£100 per team) riders can choose to either cycle the 100 mile or 100 km scenic all-road route. All types of cyclists are welcome, and on all types of bikes, whether it be road bike, mtb, recumbent, tandem or retro. Some teams are even taking part in fancy dress!
Afterwards, they're hosting a bbq, disco and bar at the Yarnbury Rugby Club in Horsforth (north of Leeds) where one of the teams taking part will get to choose a charity for the entire proceeds of the day to be donated (basically all of the entry fees are given to charity).
The routes and further information are available on the d2d website, where you can also sign your team up online.
They're also organising some 'family-based' activities at the rugby club to keep the kids entertained (a parent/guardian will still need to be present) and will have bouncy castles, refreshments available throughout the day.
Camping is available both the night before and night of the event free of charge (you need to bring your own camping gear) and you'll be able to lock your bikes up inside the club overnight if required.
We are a small group of CTC members in Leeds who ride together regularly, mostly on Sundays. We would welcome new riders to join us, so if you're looking for companions for Sunday rides in particular, please get in touch (see the 'Contacts' link). You will be able to see what's going on by browsing our group website - you'll need us to sign you up, by dropping us an e-mail. We'll be very happy to include you. The group is registered as an informal CTC group under the aegis of CTC West Yorkshire District Association (hence the title above). Details of CTC West Yorkshire officials can be found in 'Cycle' magazine.
Alternatively, if day-long Sunday rides aren't what you're looking for, and you would be interested in forming a group to cater for your own cycling - be it mountain-biking, family rides or whatever - again, please get in touch, as either we or CTC West Yorkshire will be happy to help with advice and support.
This website will also endeavour to give you news on cycling related matters in Leeds, as well as links to other relevant sites - though we can't be responsible for the content of the latter, of course.
