The Cyclists Touring Club is in the forefront of campaigning for cycling nationally.
Locally in the Leeds area the lead organisation for cycling rights work is the
Leeds Cycling Action Group.
Their
website also contains a lot of information about cycling in the Leeds area, with
useful links. Also a source of useful links about cycling groups is the
West Yorkshire Cycling
and Public Transport website.
CTC West Yorkshire District Association run a series of rather more competitive rides during the summer months, in co-operation with CTC Huddersfield and District, with medals and things to earn. Details of those events, plus contact details
for CTC officers, can be found on the
CTC West Yorkshire District Association website.
Among the other CTC member groups in the West Yorkshire region are
CTC Huddersfield and District
and CTC Halifax.
, who like ourselves
organise regular cycle rides, as well as other events. CTC Halifax are part of CTC West Yorkshire District Association, CTC Huddersfield and District are independent and separate.
There is also a group in Pontefract, though no longer formally a part of the CTC local organisation.
A number of us from time to time ride the events organised by
Audax UK. These rides are a challenge to complete a ride of a specified length within a range of time. They are non-competitive, and range in distance from 50km up to 1400km. Several appear on the programme of CTC West Yorkshire DA.
Don't forget the York Cycle Show in June each year (also
popularly known as 'York Rally'). The biggest show there is, and certainly the best! See you there.
On weekends away, many of us normally use accommodation provided by YHA (formerly called the Youth Hostels Association), which is ideal for cyclists. You can find more detail on the
YHA Website. There is also a
YHA Walking Group in Leeds, which also organises some cycling activities as well as walks and social events.
