Hardwood Furniture

A commission for an unusual design of bookcase on top of a stereo cabinet. This unit was over 9ft. high (2.8m) & had bronze tinted glass in the bookcase doors. You can just see the bent wooden glazing bars behind the glass, these were interlocked as they crossed over each other. This unit was made totally in Ash Hardwood with antique drop down handles & then stained & sprayed in a cellulose lacquer. A unit of this size & complexity would cost around £1350.00p.

Here is a chess table made in Cherry. Rather a difficult piece to manufacture as the wood grain is very erratic. All machine & hand tools have to be very sharp, with slow movement so as not to rip the grain.	The drawer extended which is where the chess pieces are kept. You can see the centre rib that is intended to stop the black & white pieces mixing as they are taken off the table.

A close up view of the joints which were mostly mortice & tenon, the only exception was in the drawer where I used dowel joints. All the mortice & tenon joints came straight through as you can see in the darker square on the leg.
