The
androids were created by Dr. Gero to destroy Goku after he defeated the
Red Ribbon army single handily in Dragonball. #16, #17 and #18 were made
to be extremely strong. Their energy never runs out like the
human/Saiyan fighters do which makes them almost impossible to
beat. #19 and #20 were energy absorbing models which can absorb
the energy blasts of the Z fighters. #16, #17 and #18 do not have
this weakness. Because their energy never runs out they do not
need to absorb energy. All the androids are programmed with Goku and the
other fighters every move (but they were un aware of the SSJ
level). #17 and #18 are evil androids that destroy the fighters
and the world in Trunks's alternative future. The
androids in Trunks' future are much more evil and ruthless than the
androids in the normal timeline, but they aren't as strong.

8:
Looking
more like something out of Frankenstein, #8 makes friends with Goku in
Dragonball.
Android 16;
#16 is the 'extra' android created by Dr.Gero. He
is quite a big guy with ginger hair and a hard head. He loves
animals and nature (in a non gay kinda way). His friends are #17
and #18. He is stronger than the both of them (just) and does his
best to protect #18 to stop her from being absorbed by Cel. He was
built to find and destroy Goku, so this is what he concentrates on and
thinks about for a long time.
Android 17;
#17 is the android that DOES LOOK gay, but isn't (at
least I don't think he is). His best friend is #18. He gets
absorbed by Cel. Both be and #18 were told by Cel that they were
created by Dr. Gero to complete him, which is why he HAD to absorb
them. #17 was described by #18 as "a person who loved the
person he was. Life was a big game to him and he loved it"
which is why he didn't let Cel absorb him without a fight.
Android 18;
Android 18 is wished to life with the dragonballs (so
she IS a REAL person!!). She marries Krillen and together they
have a daughter called Maron (-hm, funny, that name sounds kinda
familiar). Maron...not Marron!
Android 19;
#19 is #20/Dr. Gero's companion/partner/butt buddy (only
kidding). He is an energy absorbing model. He is pretty
easily destroyed by SSJ Vegeta.
Dr. Gero;
The mad scientist and creator of the androids. He
was the genius behind the 'Red Ribbon' army in Dragonball which was
beaten by Goku when he was a kid. Although Goku defeated Gero,
he didn't have the heart to kill him. He later creates the
androids to kill Goku, but the future versions turn on him and kill him
before going after Goku. In the 'real' timeline, he turns himself
into part android (#20). He too is defeated by Vegeta. Dr.
Gero also created Cel from the cells of the greatest fighters such as
Goku, Piccolo, Krillen, Frieza etc.
