Goku!!

Family; Wife Chi Chi, Sons Gohan and Gotten, Grandfather Son Gohan, (Father Bardok, brother Raditz- from planet Vegeta, mother not known).

Originally from the planet Vegeta, Goku was sent as a baby to earth in order to destroy all life in preparation for it sale by the Saiya-jin. He was found as a baby by his ‘Grandfather’ Son Gohan (from whom he gets his name).   After being dropped on his head by Gohan,  he lost his memory and with it all knowledge of his mission and grows up to be a ‘normal’ kind and loving child. After Gohan’s death, he trains with Master Roshi along with his friend Krillen.

Now the strongest person on the planet, he marries Chi Chi and becomes the father of Gohan and later Gotten. He later (at the beginning of the Dragonball Z series), finds out from his biological brother,  Raditz, the origin of his birth and his reason for being sent to earth.  He learns of the planet Vegeta and of the Saiya-jin race.  But brotherly love isn't al it's cracked up to be, after Gohan is kidnapped by Raditz, the devastated Goku is forced to team up with Piccolo to rescue him (I can't help but think this was the start of something).  Goku and Piccolo rescue Gohan, but Goku paid the price with his life.  At first, especially in the Saiya-jin saga, he is horrified and deeply hurt by and ashamed of his heritage,  but later becomes (as do Gohan, Gotten, Trunks and already Vegeta), very proud to be a Saiyan (and one of the last of his kind).   After his death, he travels to King Kai’s small planet to train.  When he is wished back a year later with the dragonballs, he battles with Nappa and Vegeta (the Saiyans who threaten the people of earth).   Nappa is destroyed by Vegeta who is then beaten and forced to retreat by Goku, with help from Krillen and Gohan.

After the battle, Goku is badly hurt and takes a while to recover. When he does so, he fallows Gohan, Krillen and Bulma to Namek in search of the Namekian Dragonballs and Frieza.  After seeing Krillen killed by Frieza, he turns SSJ (super Saiyan or super Saiya-jin).  He defeats Frieza and leaves the exploding Namek in a Gynu space pod.  Goku eventually (at the end of Dragonball GT),  becomes the strongest being in the universe.

He may be strong, but he's not very bright, in fact, you could say most of his brains are in his stomach!  When he is not fighting or training, he is very quiet and a certain dumb charm.  If you are wondering how, unlike the other Saiyans, Goku does not have a tail, it's because  Goku's tail was removed when he was a small child (which was a good thing because it was such a weakness-especially during training and battle because it was so painful to hit or pull).  For anyone who is wondering, he does grow his tail back (with a little help from King Kai).  When he does go Oozaru (monkey), he turns gold because he does so in space with the light from the earth-not the moon (see, this is what I don't get, Saiyans turn Oozaru from the light from the earth and moon, but not the sun! Beats me).

later on in the Z series, he fuses with Vegeta to become Gogita, and later Vegetto, one of the strongest warriors of all time.

Goku is well known for always smiling before a major battle, even as far back as Dragonball, due to his Saiya-jin blood.  He is always giving to others with no expectation or want of any thing more than a "thank you"
