My intention is to précis the diary I made of my trek to Everest Base Camp during November 2001. Apart from the minor disappointment, as expected, that there nothing to see in the way of expeditions at base camp at that time of year the trip was outstanding from the moment we landed at Kathmandu. In fact nothing to see at base camp was a bonus. We were expecting a considerable amount of debris left by various expeditions. The clean up work had been superb and there were just a few payer flags on the moraine to mark where camps had been. The trek I went on was organised by Exodus. Things were very well organised and ran smoothly from day one. I would certainly recommend them to anyone planning a similar venture.

I have not made the progress I hoped for with my diary as I have been side-tracked by reading “Touching My Father’s Soul” by Jamling Tenzing Norgay. It gives a superb insight into not only into Everest expeditions but also the people and culture of the Khumbu Valley. That’s it as far as the plugs go, I promise. Well perhaps one more later on for a guidebook I used. (Diary in preparation….)
