I Am The Resurrection

Andy in Milton Keynes, England:
The drums at the start... The way the vocal kicks in... The stunning finale... The the (legendary) jam at the end... Oh My God. The BEST TUNE EVER. Thanks for listening.

Andy in Manchester, England:
Obvious why this is the best but I remember going to see Oasis for their two Maine Road shows. The second show was the Sunday. A very large number of people went straight from Old Trafford to Maine Road. We had just put 5 past Forrest and virtually guaranteed the championship that year so we were on an amazing high anyway. As the hour approached it was about ten minutes before Oasis were due to come on, the distinctive drums of I am The Resurection started from the PA system. The tape had been playing the usual collection of favourites up until that point but this stopped half the crowd. People were looking at each and realising who it was. The Stone Roses on the tape in front of 50,000. Every Manc in the place and a few more besides started to sing. That special type of Manc singing that is a murmur at first. Then the chorus and at least half the crowd threw their arms in the air and sung I am the Resurection and I am the light. Palms skyward heads back. Johns guitar! solo and then that chorus again. Happy daze.

Troy in London, England:
Although every piece by the Roses is great, this is a near perfect track all over. Some of the younger generation could do well to listen to that song alone. (do I sound old?) (No mate, just grown up now like the rest of us!...Ed).

Andy Jenkins in Chamonix, France:
12 years on, and this song still makes me want to scream and cry and explode and grin like a loon, arms flailing and lost in the music! Not many songs come close; maybe Primal Scream, maybe Underworld, but this track beats them all.

Mayhems mate, Flame in Warrington, England:
Ok, lets be analytical about this. No, actually, lets f**king not. This song transcends any kind of words(superlatives, usually) you may care to bestow on it. Still I'm gonna try. Uplifting. Emotive. Original. Driven. Funky. Chunky. Arrogant. Fantastic. Complete. Perfect. English. This song. This f**king pure slice of emotional art never fails to make every person with half a heart and half a dream want to dance. Dance and scream and shout and love and drink and kiss and create. It could ONLY be made by a British band. Don't like someone? Imagine singing this to them... I'm sure we all have. World getting you down? Put this on and dance like a stimulant based bee chasing a piece of blossom. Jesus Christ this song is the new religion of our generation. That drum beat. That bassline. Ian Brown glides into the song with the best opening line in history. That line makes you feel like the king, you know it does. Then the guitar flies in on a wave of frozen fire. That would be enough. Stop the song there, it would still be one of the best songs ever made. Each chorus end makes you wanna throw punches and make love. How does it do that? Then the chorus comes along. BURSTS IN. How can you not be filled with joy? Raise those hands in the air. Scream every word. You are filled with fuel. You wanna hug everyone around. It finishes. Right there, it's the best song ever. Never mind the best Stone Roses song ever. THEN THEY JAM. And boy, do they jam. Jam is NOT the right word. I don't know the right word. There isn't a word powerful enough to sum up this futuristic feast of firey funk. How can you not dance? It takes me up in the clouds, I swear it does. The bass, the guitar, the drums. Not instruments; they are angels breaths and the devils shouts. Next time you are in your club. You know, the one you love. The place that is yours, I want you to just take this song in and remember how good things can be. Nothing will ever top this. It shakes you and and makes you feel as if you can do anything. F**k everyone. Wanna swagger like Ian? DO it, man. Swagger down that sunny road and smile. It's all yours for the taking... This is the best Stone Roses song ever This is the best song ever made. I Am The Resurrection is the ammo we should take into battle when we go to war against anyone who isn't.

(I'm speechless man!...Now that is a comment!!!...Ed)

Lucy Wren in Manchester, England:
Cos its amzing and Reni's drumming is unbelievable. How the hell he does such good backing vocals at the same time I dunno. Ian's vocals are great and the words are such a put down its funny, John as always does unhuman things with his guitar and Mani as always gels the whole thing together and gives it that extra charsima. If there was one song I had to listen to for the rest of my ilfe it would be this, its just so interesting to listen to and I never get bored of it.

James in Lancaster, England:
I used to go out and sit in my first car just to listen to this, those few that know Lancaster will remember weekends spent in the Sugar House, this was the last song every Saturday night for two years. If The Stone Roses were a football team then this song would be their Ryan Giggs.

  Tomy in Scotland:
I am the resurrection is my favourite because it reminds me of when I was 15. I used to stand around the back of the primary school with my mates on a friday night with our bottles of Thunderbird singing songs like "Shall we take a trip" by Northside and "Wrote for luck" by the Mondays. Resurrection was always our favourite and we even had the instrumental perfected.(Northside...I loved em!..ed)

Miles Standish in Atlanta, Georgia, USA:
listen to the last few minutes of Resurrection! Pure greatness. Best thing since...Sex.

Bowiestone in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium:
Great melody (like always), but on this one you hear a massive guitar solo. (John Squire is my favorite Rose)

Phil Gray in Sunderland, England:
Its the "stairway to heaven" of the 90's

David O'Donaghue in Dublin, Ireland:
I was one of the lucky one to see them as they played very rarely, when they played at Feile '95 in Cork. What a gig. I was on top of a mates shoulders for "I am the Resurection" and it was just brilliant. One of the best days ever.

David Apon in The Netherlands:
The outro of this song is amazing!!

Ben Moore in Philadelphia, USA:
The epic squire solo!

The jam at the end of the song is just great.

Matt in Manchester, England:
Because the twin devils of Squire and Reni make you go f**king mental at that outro. Even better live, (Blackpool 89)

Dean Proctor in Aberdeen, Scotland:
Although it is bloody hard to choose one Roses song over and above all others, the drum beat, bassline and instrumental outro of Resurrection pips the others to the post. Maybe this is because when I was in the thousands-long-queue waiting to get into the huge gig at Glasgow Green, all we could hear was the band warming up with Resurrection. What a memory!

Peter Newton in Maidenhead:
Excellent lyrics and music to die for.

Stu May in Cannock, England:
Brilliant ending.

Matthew Maxey in Milton Keynes, England:
Reni's best beat, Mani's best bassline, Ian's sweetest vocals and John Squire's best solo. And they finish it off with their funkiest jam - quality.

Identification.

Omar Vizquel in Seattle, WA, USA:
I'm a no one nowhere washed-up baby who'd look better dead.

Ben Yater in Costa Mesa, California USA:
In an album where each song seemed as though it couldn't possibly get any better only to have the succeeding song do just that, the grand finale of the album is fittingly the emotional zenith, a complete utter bliss-out. It's simply the greatest 15 minute continuum of pure peak hour ecstasy ever put on record.

Toby Morgan in Hereford(don't ask), England:
Well, um, I am the Reserection.

This song could wake you up at 6am after an hours sleep, and the whole thing can send a shiver through your spine, send you into a frenzy dancing like a monkey around your whole bedroom for 8 minutes, and charm you into playing 'Complete' three times over.

Nige in Middlesbrough, England:
The lyrics are really angry and the long guitar riff at the end is the best ever.

Dave Gittins in Wigan, Manchester, England:
Reminds me of a dance floor full of people, hands raised in the air singing along to "I am the resurrection, and i am the light" at an indie night in Wigan - Excelent!!!!

The orgasmic finale.

Scally Sally T in Ellesmere Port, England:

Excellent 7 and 12 inch versions including the greatest instrumental break on any record.

Neil Strachan in Aberdeenshire, Scotland:
It takes me back ten years, when I was more passionate about the music I listened to. It epitomised everything that the 'scene' was about. As for the guitar solo, fantastic. If only radio broadcasters played the whole song, on the rare occassions it is heard.

It is one of those songs that you can't not sing along to, no matter what sort of mood you are in.

Ant in North London, England:
Cos it aint 80's guitar pop or the "Stairway.." of the 80's, its f**ked up funk from white boys with Rhydin, nothing else apart from going mental matters when you hear it or ever will.

Anyone who has an interest in guitar music has to agree that the guitars on this track are sublime, especially the live version from Blackpool Empress Ballroom. The song itself has one of the finest drum solo intro's ever and the lyrics are great. Without doubt an anthem for a generation.

Mani's baseline is the best ever and Ian Brown's vocals are fantastic. This song always cheers me up!

(I'm sick of Keith Moon gettin' all the glory) and top that off with one of the greatest frontmen. What have you got? This song. I remember when I first heard this and the final 6 minutes still fly by leaving a euphoric feeling unsuppassed to this day. Beatles Great, Oasis Good, Roses Best!. (I take my hat of to that comment mate! Nicely said...Ed)

Captain Cammelfish (???...Ed) in Glasgow, Scotland: A truly inspiring song, takes us back to the good times with your mates. It is impossible to get bored of the Solo at the end. A bottle of Buckfast Tonic Wine and and good old bash at the ressurection down the Devro. MOODIESBURN AGRO!!

Words cannot describe how I feel about this song! Memories can never be relived without it, just sit back and listen to hear for yourself.

David Palmen in Barrow-in-Furness, England:
Greatest song ever wrote? I think so. The version from the album 'The Stone Roses' is just simply so fucking uplifting it cant be true. From the very start it just makes you feel like moving in only the way Ian Brown ever could. Every chorus is just the build up to when Brown finaly explodes with his Manc accent but sounding at the same time so in harmony. Then when the lyrics finish Squire comes in with some of his best music, and as funky as ever. Reni also keeps you moving all through the song with a beat that only he could produce. I am the Resurrection is deffinatley the most under rated song of all time. Shame, if a few more people could hear it, it might brighten them up a bit. Cheers.(Well said...Ed)

Tim Alloy in Denver city, Denver, USA :
Bye bye Badman and How Do You Sleep come a close second for me, but this song never gets old. I have been listening to this song for over 12 years and its still the mutts nuts.

Chris Chantler in Stockport, England:
Top bassline, funky drums, and THAT guitar solo which is just amazing, I was grinning like a cheshire cat when I learned to play that. The reaction this song gets at indie clubs in Manchester unites everyone there and its still far and away the best song that gets played there. Thankyou Stone Roses!

Louise in Manchester, England:
It's just an amazing anthemic tune! Too young to have seen them live but when that track gets played in Indie clubs everyone just unites with one love!
