Budgies

The easiest way to tell the sex of your budgie is to look at the cere, the bit above the bird's beak.

Young females usually have a bluey cere, with white rings around the nostrils.

Young males tend to have pinky/purple colour.

Mature females will have a brown cere, whereas mature males will have a blue one.

Note that lutino and recessive pied budgie's cere does not follow these rules.

Chickens

Male chickens (cocks) will have spurs, and will often ' Cock-a-doodle-do'

Female chickens (hens) will most likely lay eggs so these are easy to sex too.
