CHESHIRE SCOUTS WATER ACTIVITIES
What or Who is CWAC?
CWAC stands for the Cheshire Water
Activities Committee and is made up of leaders and helpers who are
particularly interested in water activities. It does have its own
committee with Robin Ferris as chairman, Peter Slater as secretary and Steve
Kelham as treasurer, all of whom are active instructors! The other
members of the committee are all active Scout Leaders who give their time to
promoting and instructing water activities in addition to their other role
in Scouting- running sections and Districts.
There are CWAC meetings in October and
February that are open to interested individuals. Look out for dates
in Cheshire Scouting, contact Peter Slater or this website.
Why bother with water activities?
What other adventurous activities can you
organise with so little effort? And you may be able to get a subsidy from
the new style CCC grant for water activities.
Even the most basic qualifications allow
Scouts to gain Proficiency badges, and can be used for Chief Scout, Queens
Scout and D of E Awards.
Why not book a taster session for this
year? Some of your Scouts will have enjoyed a taster session previously and
are keen to do more at Tatton or elsewhere.

What We Do.
If you want a taster day, a badge course,
or to take up a water sport regularly, just give us a call
Getting people started has been a theme
for four years now. It is now possible to have a weekend camp with water
activities at Tatton at reasonable prices.
We are keen to train and award Leaders,
Network, Explorer Scouts and Scouts for nationally recognised
qualifications. These help with authorisations to go independent – great for
summer camps!
Nationally qualified instructors run all
our courses, but we need more particularly with the extra facilities at
Tatton. CWAC will support your training, ring the adviser for advice. We
are always pleased to welcome helpers independent of Unit / Troop bookings.
Often we can bring equipment and a video
to Troop, Unit or District meetings to give you a preview first, or you can
borrow a video. This makes a good winter programme item!
There are ‘special needs’ facilities for
most water activities: Tim Palin (01606 49168) has had 3 months training for
this.
Equipment can be hired for a day, weekend,
or longer, e.g. for summer camps. We often have equipment for sale, or know
where to get it. Contact the specialists.
N.B ALL PARTICIPANTS IN WATER
ACTIVITIES MUST HAVE BEEN TESTED FOR SWIMMING 50M IN ORDINARY CLOTHING AND
STAYING AFLOAT FOR 5 MINS. (POR 42.1)
