This is Westoe Village viewed looking up and looking down the village road . The two small brick walls attached to the white house , is the entrance to the "Westoe cut " and leads to the Westoe pub . Thousands and Thousands of students must have walked through the cut from the Marine college to the pub. I was certainly one of them .

This is the cut viewed from both ends , the centre picture is how it was in 1939 .

Westoe pub in its garish colours (horrible) . To the right is how it was in 1900 . Notice the horse drawn trams , which in those days were only used by the well off , the fares were too expensive for normal working folk .

| This is the Gazebo standing on Horsley Hill Road . It measures 9ft x 9ft and has stood in the grounds of the White House since 1766 . It was built as a look out , as in those days you would have been able to see the Harbour . | This is the Gazebo in March 2005 . |

The Old Regent cinema , which is now the Mecca Bingo Hall . In 1943 a bomb hit the centre of the road and destroyed the Regent Garage which was adjacent to the cinema .

This is the entrance to the Marine College and "millions" of students ( including me ) have passed through its doors since it was built in the 1950`s.The original college was founded in Ocean Rd in 1837 by Dr Winterbottom. It is one of only three or four in the whole world where Merchant seamen can study for their seagoing qualifications . It is a leader in its class . |
