Dear Sirs, Ladies and Gentlemen, fellow Pétanquers
It is with considerable regret that I inform you that, this year, there
will be no dance or presentation night. As it has become obvious, due to
the lack of attendance in the last few years and the lack of
commitment shown by our current teams (even after a month's extension
of the deadline), that you do not want one.
Those of you that did make a commitment, in the form of a deposit, will
be receiving your cheques back with this letter.
Maybe it is a sign of changing times that those 53 that were prepared
to support the function were let down by the 330 or so others out of
the 390 or more that play in our league. Perhaps the 'do' can be
resurrected another year... I hope it happens!
The prizes for this seasons's play will be available for collection at
the 2004 AGM. The venue for this will be advised later, when the
signing on forms are sent out, but you already know the date as it is
in our current fixtures/rule book.
The trophies will be available on this one occasion only, if for any
reason they are not collected... They will be recycled and used in
subsequent seasons.
Some thought needs to be put in about electing some new committee
members next year. I have taken Secretary's duties for the current
season to ensure continuity. I will tell you now that I wish to retire
as Secretary at the end of next season (if re-elected) please cajole
some suitable characters to do a stint. I am prepared to ease someone
into the job gently, but Computer availability and literacy are
essential.
I intend to continue researching information about the 1990 Pétanque
League and any documents or anecdotes you may have from any time
within our history will be helpful, please allow me to put them on the
web.
