Samples form the Portfolio of Sculpture, installations, models, and painting of Daniel Anthony Hughes-McGrail. Feats The Flying Man. 1995. Resin/Laminate and Steel Wire A life size sculpture. It was installed by the artist at several sites of outstanding beauty, often by surprise and at night so that walkers would happen upon it and be amazed. The Flying Man is a deceptively simple statement about the power and the quality of Human imagination and perceptual malleability. It was first exhibited in the Feats exhibition at the Custard Factory, Birmingham with a statement Not a Bird, Not a Plane, Not Superman...The reality of a thing is given by Its contextualisation and by Consensus.² It has also been temporarily installed at parties and festivals. The sculpture attracted a lot of attention and caused considerable debate. It now resides in a private Quarry in Herefordshire, and it is for sale. The Feats Group The Feats show was a highly succesful major themed exhibition of Daniels work held at The Custard Factory, Birmingham, in 1995. The show was an immersive multi-media Installation that contained ambient music, controlled lighting, paintings and several figure sculptures. The Installation also contained conceptual texts which guided the perceptual focus of the spectator.
