Week 15
9th July 2001
Monday and the new longe is really opened out now and beam is sitting on 2 new padstones/concrete lintels. |
Box lintel above the door and top left you can just make out the concrete pre-stressed lintel holding up the blue beam. |
It was felt that a box lintel was definitely needed over the old front window opening as there was nothing before. |
| Monday night and Doorway from new lobby into kitchen/diner is cut |
Also standing in the new lounge the doorway is cut from the lobby. |
Tuesday and the above doorway is built up with a box lintel in place. |
Inner course above new front door is also built up. |
Chimney is built up above roof height. |
Front timber work is really taking shape |
It took me all evening to get this little window out. |
Wednesday and the main front structure is in place |
Thursday and the dormer is started on. |
Friday and more work to the dormer and other parts of the roof. |
Every evening this week we have been chipping plaster and breaking up hardcore.
Saturday with butts placed in the 1st floor joists to stop them twisting. I was helping until my dad hit my finger with the hammer so I then stuck to breaking up hardcore. |
They say that, like a book, everyone's got a Radon sump in them somewhere.. |
What is a radon sump you may ask? in some areas radon gas builds up in the ground and because the air pressure in your house is lower than the air pressure under the house the gas is drawn into the house. The radon sump is a collector and won't actually do anything until a fan is attached outside to draw the air out and lower the air pressure under the house and draw any gasses out of the house. The extractor fans are 18ins in diameter so you really do not want to fit one of those unless you need to. You can find out if you need to by putting testers in the house and monitoring the radon levels in the house. |

By Sunday all plaster was off and the last chimney breast was also nearly out.
