Week 2

April 9th 2001

Monday:  The First load of bricks and cement are delivered
Septic tank has now reached critical point and will have to be sorted out very soon.

Tuesday: Bricklaying starts to build up the footings .Carrick (obviously in the way) gets bricked into the first wall.
We will dig him out in a few years time.

Wednesday: Walls building up nicely, notice our initials immortalised into the wall.

We are up until late bashing up hardcore.  Then we went to bed early....

Thursday: 7am a delivery turns up, I jump out of bed and my legs fold underneath me.  I'm not used to this kind of thing.
Living in our area we are apparently prone to Radon gas so we had to have this sump built into the floor.  The old lady that lived in the house before us lived to 90+ years, maybe she would have lived to 190 if she had a Radon sump too.

Also Suze runs out of tea, builders threaten to go on strike.  luckily Roy and Pat had their own tea bags and Suzanne lent them some hot water.

Later she borrowed some tea bags from them to make a tea for her mates.

Despite the coven of witches in the house work carries on....

Friday:  Good Friday and our Planning permission comes through, hoorah!!!

Bad Friday though if I fancied a bit of a rest.

Good news for the builders the tea bags have arrived.  Maybe Friday the 13th isn't so bad after all, mind you still no sign of a cup of  tea yet.

First thing down to the builders merchants to pick up some more pipe and timber.

After lunch another delivery arrives, this time ballast to make up the concrete that is going to be poured into the cavity for the foundations.  This is when I have to start working.

First I recieve my Tipping training from Roy and Pat.

A rare moment of tipping accuracy.  Notice John (Suze's dad) has now been recruited despite the fact that he has his best clothes on and has driven over in his smart, CLEAN car.

Cavities now almost all filled just a bit more to do on Sunday when the freshly laid bricks have dried.

Lingo of the week (they were still a bit green)

The first drainage pipes are now in place

Saturday:

Went out to buy a new pair of shoes for our night on the town and came back with a Black & Decker workmate from Homebase £19.99 on special offer.

 How sad have I become.........

Easter Sunday and the day started off bright and early with an egg hunt in the garden.

The rest of the morning was spent concreting the final part of the foundation wall.

Wall height has been kept lower here so the dumper can drive straight on with the hard core.

Overall not a bad week and I think we have sorted out a carpenter and roofer for the roof now.

Back to timeline.
