Week 3

16 April 2001

Bank Holiday Monday:  Holiday.. who mentioned holiday.  I was making the profiles for the windows.

These are wooden templates that the builders build round and are popped out when the windows are fitted.

The finished works of art.
I also had to knock up some covers for the existing drains because we will be using them for a while and they are going to be hard cored over.

Tuesday: More deliveries
The first lot of blocks arrive.
Along with a small dumper and digger and some hardcore.

Insulation for the floor.

A wacker plate and the child labour was again utilised.

He will have a few stories to tell when the Easter holidays are over and he's back at school.

By the end of Tuesday the hard core was down.

Wednesday and the builders were greeted with our poor effort of producing hardcore.

You wouldn't believe that was a pickup full.  The poor pickup was nearly pulling a wheelie.

By Wednesday evening the Radon membrane was down.

Our poor garden, it looks like a building site.

Oh I forgot....it is a building site.

Thursday and No builders but we did have some sand delivered.

Beards and sand don't mix.

Friday and I had moved the blocks in off the road by now and still no sign of any bricks.  The builders merchants hadn't booked the order and couldn't deliver so it took a couple of runs in Suze's Dads pickup to get the stuff.

Finally some bricks and damp proofing arrived.

Next the concrete arrived.

Saturday morning and I was dispatched, first thing, right across town to Travis Perkins the builders merchants to track down a guy called Pete who knew what we wanted.

I couldn't find a Pete and nobody knew of his whereabouts.  A couple of phone calls later it became apparent that I was in fact at the wrong place and there was another Travis Perkins just down the road from where we live and sure enough there was a guy called Pete who worked there who knew what we wanted.

Most of Saturday afternoon was spent chipping off the render for the wall ties to attatch to.  Unfortunately the bricks got looser and looser the higher up I got.

This was a pig of a job but luckily our mate Jezz had popped round and gave me a tip about scouring out groves with an angle grinder.

Sunday Morning and we took this rare opportunity to get some work out of Kris.

Then it was back to the concrete mixer to top up the cavities.

Off the the Aviator at Sywell for lunch to round off the week.
