There have been many times in my life when I have been
confused by references in literature to wire gauges that may be common
in some places, but are not universal. Some of these occasions have
been very significant and could have led to serious problems and
consequences. I have spent much of my life designing unusual custom
built electrical and electronic control gear and errors due to wrong
wire gauge could have caused fire or failure.
