The maps below show the distribution of the Chattwood and Chatwood names. The first map shows the distribution countrywide by county. Areas cropped from the map have no examples of the name. The figures show the total number for both names in the 1881 census. The other map, which omits the area in the south-east, shows the distribution by Poor Law Union. The table shows that the "Chatwood" variant is the most widespread. The Chattwood variant is found in Lancashire where it is more common than Chatwood although the latter is still well represented. Chattwood is also found in Staffordshire where it is more or less level pegging with Chatwood.

It's worth mentioning that 40 of the Lancashire Chattwoods are in the Haslingden Poor Law Union and the other 7 in Prestwich. Haslingden also accounts for 7 of the Chatwoods making this Poor Law Union by far the biggest concentration of Chattwood/Chatwood in Lancashire. Of those Yorkshire all are in Dewsbury apart from a pupil at a school in Settle. In the second map 'B' (1 person) is Blackburn and 'H' (47) is Haslingden.
