My links to this family are fairly tenuous so my knowledge is correspondingly skimpy. The information below is my current belief but further delving may prove me wrong. It is based entirely on census records, the Edenfield parish records and MIs, and on-line BMD
indexes.
Richard DUCKWORTH was born 10/01/1790 to William and Anne. He was baptised at Edenfield the same year but oddly the fiche does not give the date. They had eight children:
- Hannah 18201901 see below for marriage and issue
- Elizabeth 1821 cotton rover
- Alice 1824
- Henry bap 1826; married Sarah had issue:
- Mary Ann 1845 Edenfield
- Alice 18461911 [I think Alice and Mary Ann may be same person]
- Jane 1848 Rawtenstall
- Zilpah 1851 Rawtenstall [also Zilpha/Zilphah]; d.1924; m Haworth SCHOFIELD 1883
- Edwin Henry 1853. Seems to have been baptised twice at Edenfield in 1853 and 1865. The record gives the same date of birth for both so I assume both entries refer to same person. And by baptised twice I mean "went through the ceremony twice". This would not be evident to the priest as the original register would not bring the two entries together.
- Ellen 1830 winder
- Jonathan 1832 railway porter
- Ralph 1835 mule piecer
- Edwin 1838
Hannah (1820) married George WHITTAKER a waggoner in 1846 and they had two sons:
- James WHITTAKER 18471899 a railway stationmaster
- Richard 1848
In 1855 Hannah married again to James WALMSLEY and they had a son
Henry Duckworth WALMSLEY (sometimes as Walmersley) b. 1859 in Blackburn who was later a quarryman. In 1890 he married Alice CHATTWOOD which is how these people connect to my family. They had at least two children, Edwin (1890) and Hannah (1895)
