| This tent, shown left, allows bees to be manipulated behind mesh screens so that there is no risk to the observing public. |
|
|---|---|---|
| This has proved very popular with children, who are dressed in small sized bee suites, wellingtons and gloves as depicted at right. | ||
| The 'volunteers' are first shown what to do by an
experienced beekeeper.
Then they open the hive for themselves. |
|---|---|
|
| The demonstration concludes with the hive being reassembled
and any loose bees are then rounded up with a specially adapted vacuum
cleaner shown bottom left.
The final stage is the presentation of certificates which show what the children have done. |
|
|---|
| This device, that uses a soft drinks bottle as a collecting chamber, is so gentle in action that it does not harm the bees. You can see them running around inside it while it is in action. |
