Registered Charity No:- 510678

Aims of The Association...

Aims and objectives... our constitution states:-
"The Charity's objects ("the objects") are to preserve the honeybee, by promoting the craft of beekeeping and educating the public of the benefit of bees to the environment. The Charity will generally operate in, and draw its membership from the Counties of Leicestershire and Rutland although membership from outside this region is allowed."
Preserving the honeybee is important, not just to beekeepers, but all mankind. The pollination provided by these insects is of vast economic significance and honey is a useful and pleasant comestible product that is often underrated and undersold.

Furtherance of the craft of beekeeping is important to beekeepers as the more widely it is understood, the less chance there is of politicians and rule makers causing adverse legislation.

Education of the general public about bees and their usefulness is required, owing to a poor general understanding among modern humans that have not been as widely exposed to beekeeping as would have been the case in previous centuries. Such understanding is not helped by the way our news media view honey bees as some sort of threat.

Education of potential beekeepers is of prime importance, to enrich our craft with younger individuals. The enthusiasm is there in the young as can be seen from our Association's demonstrations, but this enthusiasm is somehow dampened by parents and schoolteachers that are themselves not as well educated as they might be.

Education of established beekeepers in new techniques and developments has always been the aim of many beekeeping associations. However it is of greater importance at the present time as various pests are prevalent in beekeeping and there is a need for continuing update on the methods used to combat them.

Apart from these formal reasons, it is pleasant to meet with like minded individuals to discuss problems, practice new methods or just to discuss ideas and theories. Progress can only be made by a combination of experiment and practice of such new ideas with proper evaluation of results.
