I'M DAVID
WELCOME TO MY WEBSITE

We live in the small Lancashire town of Great Harwood, not a million miles away from Blackburn and quite close to Accrington and Burnley.
Pendle Hill, famous for its walks and witches is on our doorstep and the Ribble Valley just beyond.
Our family is made up of me, a part-time milkman and full-time layabout,my hobbies include genealogy, karate and computers.
Judith is my " wife " she seems to spend all her time looking after Coco and Edward her two horses.
Last but not least is Thomas our son, who loves anything to do with animals, farms and especially TRACTORS.
Ironically our house is just across the road from the cemetery where as I found when doing my family history quite a few of our relatives are buried, but that's another story.
THE MAIN AIM OF THIS WEBSITE IS TO ATTRACT VISITORS TO VIEW OUR FAMILY TREE AND MAYBE FIND SOME LONG LOST RELATIVES.
THE SURNAMES I AM RESEARCHING ARE :-
ASHCROFT, ATHERTON
BARKER, BONSALL, BRIGGS
CLARKE, COCKSHUTT, CROSS
DAVIES, DEMAIN(E), DENNELEY
GRUNDY
HARWOOD, HOLDEN
INGHAM
LONSDALE
MARTIN, Mc GOVERN
PILLING, POLLARD
SMITH, SPEAK
WHITTAKER, WILSON
At the present time most of Thomas's known Pollard relatives live in Great Harwood,
but this hasn't always been the case. His great, great grandfather, Robert was born in Blackburn in 1867.
He came to Great Harwood with his mother Alice ( Grundy ) and George his father around 1879.
George was born in 1826 in the parish of Whalley, Lancashire which also includes Billington, Wiswell,
and Barrow Bridge, now just known as Barrow.....Map
About the same time George left Whalley others in the Pollard family spread out
to the Rochdale, West Houghton and Morecambe areas.
IF YOUR A POLLARD FROM ONE OF THESE AREAS PLEASE GET IN TOUCH
David
The Pollards were carpenters by trade and can be traced back to John Pollard who married Isabel Ingham on the 4th August 1733 in Whalley parish church.
Here the family line becomes a bit feint, I think John is the son of Nicolas Pollard born 1710 in Simonstone near Padiham,
he is certainly the right age and the fact he calls his first son Nicolas seems to strengthen the argument,
if anyone has any ideas how to prove or disprove this theory I would be glad to hear from them.
Thomas's roots through the Holdens go from Whalley to Blackburn and with the Clarkes to Huncoat.
His Demaine connection takes him via Whalley to Addingham,Otley and Rylstones in the county of Yorkshire.
The Barkers take him back to Burnley and Dukinfield on the Cheshire border,
his maternal line going back via the Martins and Mc Governs to Liverpool and Ireland
and through Clitheroe, Chatburn and Slaidburn with the Cockshutt,Thornber and Briggs families.
Phew and I thought this genealogy was going to be easy !!
