Lantern Roof Garden Room

The Customers Brief
The customers brief was to design a truly all year around garden room achieving the highest performance in both insulation and noise reduction, also to remain in keeping with the colonial design of the property.

Our Solution
Our solution was the design you see here. Constructed of maintenance free white U PVC, with double glazed windows and sound deadening laminated roof. The insulation was achieved with the overall use of Pilkington K Glass and argon gas filling of the glazing units. The design was carefully sited between the two wings of the main building and enhanced both internally and externally with a lantern roof design.

The Customers Brief
The room was to be used full-time and the highest specifications with regard to insulation and rain noise. Most importantly the room was to be awkwardly sited so as to provide the best aspect to view the garden.

It was also requested that instant temperature control be made available.

Our Solution
The room was constructed on a raised base with a suspended concrete floor extending the raised patio and balustrade. Extensive use of Pilkington 'K' argon gas filled units ensured insulation values matching that of the property. The window products were of mahogany and the roof UPVC clad aluminum which ensures minimal maintenance but retains traditional character. Temperature control is achieved with a self contained air conditioning unit and heater situated in the cavity dwarf wall.

Lean-to with Gabled Dormer

The Customers Brief
The client required a full time garden room. There were particular concerns of insulation to prevent heat loss and safety in regard fire escape, also access for maintenance to the first floor windows.

Our Solution
The solution seen above provides a large room that can be used full time. The structure was designed so as to be sympathetic to the surroundings and the existing building. Particular attention was paid to the number and size of roof lights which could removed completely for maintenance and a laminated load bearing roof for means of a fire escape from the first floor.
