The Edward Everard Building is certainly Bristol’s finest example of Art Nouveau architecture, being built in the first decade of the 20th Century. Edward Everard himself was a printer by trade, and in the two outside spandrels of the double windows on the first floor are, on the left, Gutenberg with an example of a mediaeval alphabet alongside, and to the right, is an example of a then modern printer at work, with a correspondingly modern-style alphabet alongside. In the middle spandrel of this floor is an angel, and also in the gable of the roof.
