Bristol in the Post-War Period

Yet another composite view of Bristol in the mid-1950’s. Top left is a view of the Avon Gorge with the Clifton Suspension Bridge, virtually unaltered. Top right is a view of the Council House, once again very little changed. The central view is of the spire of St.Mary Redcliffe from Prince Street Bridge; again, virtually unchanged. Even the hand-operated crane and the railings are still there to this day! Bottom right is the Quay Head at the City Centre Gardens, and unlike the three upper views, this has now changed beyond all recognition during the 1999 Millennium revamp. Bottom left are the City Centre Gardens themselves, now disappeared in the aforementioned revamp, although the surrounding buildings are much the same, except for those at the far end of the gardens, where now stands Yates Wine Lodge and the Colston Tower.
