A view of the Bristol Docks, taken from the Merchant’s Road swing bridge during the early 1960’s.
(The three bright patches of light may be spurious flares caused by the reflection of sunlight from shiny surfaces in the view) Apart from the quaysides, the only building or structure remaining to the modern day in this view is the distant spire of St. Mary Redcliffe to the mid-right of the picture. Unfortunately, the writing along the tops of the timber sheds is not quite legible enough to identify the name of the company that ran it in those days. Everything in this view has now given way to housing estates, leisure boating, and pubs. The modern day "Pump House" pub would be out of camera-shot to the left of this view, and the "Nova Scotia" pub would be out of view to the right.
