Brass went to the National Finals in Preston on the 22nd of September (to
compete, not just to watch) with high hopes of bringing home some silverware.
Sadly, on this occasion it wasn't to be.
Drawn at number 13 the band gave a superb rendition of Malcolm Arnold's "Attleborough Suite" to much cheering from our travelling army of supporters and a large section of the crowd. Unfortunately the adjudicators (P McCann and D Broadbent) decided to put us in a creditable 6th place, behind winners Shirland Training Band. Afterwards the band were clearly disappointed at the result, but after much beer (and slurring) it was eventually decided that we'd played our little socks off and should be proud of our achievements this year. Of the bands that finished ahead of us I only heard two others. I particularly enjoyed the St Dennis performance (they came second) who really went for it big style. West Mercia Constabulary (5th) were very solid, as they were at the area. I didn't get to hear Shirland, but they are obviously a very talented, young band (most are still at school and some still at primary school by the looks of it!) and should be congratulated for their performance. |
