With Peter Taylor - baritone and
Tom Corfield - organ.
Born in 1928, Antonín Tucapský is
one of the most significant composers to emerge from the former Czechoslovakia.
he has written a number of works for choir. The Sacrifice tells of
Christ's crucifixion using the words of George Herbert. It is highly charged
and dramatic, reflecting a deep sympathy with the underlying message of
Passiontide. Composed in memory of his parents, his accompanying Five
Lenten Motets are gems of understatement; intensely moving and uplifting.
Five Mystical Songs by Ralph Vaughan Williams provide a wonderful contrast,
with English texts set to music by one of the foremost 20th Century composers.
Tickets £12 adults (£14 on the door) under 16s £5.
