I have put together this professional homepage out of laziness - I would prefer to just tell people who ask me for details of useful websites or articles I have written to look on my homepage, rather than try to remember all the references myself! I would like to stress that this is a professional, not a personal, homepage. So I will gladly tell you that I currently work as Head of Learning Development at University Campus Suffolk, Ipswich, UK, and that my main professional interests concern the teaching and learning of mathematics and statistics as an enabling underpinning skill across all university curriculum areas, within an accessible and flexible supported learning environment. But I will not be sharing photos of my family or reports of my holidays or details of my favourite pizzas! I hope the sections of this website are self explanatory - see the bar above. The Curriculum Vitae will inform you that many years ago I graduated with Joint Honours in Mathematics and German, at the time a fairly radical combination of subjects. Nowadays I keep Mathematics for "work" and German for "pleasure", although attending maths conferences in Germany and Austria kind of blurs the boundaries! Apart from a couple of years teaching English as a foreign language in Germany, I spent twenty years teaching mathematics and statistics in the UK tertiary (further and higher education) sector, before moving to a full-time college management position in 2003. In 2007 I joined University Campus Suffolk, where I am able to pursue my specialist lecturing interests in maths and statistics while leading wider developmental work relating to academic skills development. The Publications section contains full text versions of some of my articles and conference presentations. (A fuller list can be found in the CV section.) These will perhaps give you the best idea of who I am and what my interests and opinions are (or were at the time!). The obligatory Links page gives links to websites which I find useful from a professional point of view. I will try to keep this updated as often as possible. So, if you have got this far, thanks for dropping by. Any comments and constructive criticism welcome. And if you would like to invite me to join any collaborative research, run training or consultancy sessions for you, or work with you for a high salary in a location which offers either sun or snow-topped mountains (preferably both), then I would be particularly pleased to hear from you! Email me here!
