CHRONIC TIREDNESS

Chronic tiredness sometimes called chronic fatigue is affecting more and more people and the reasons are not always apparent. It is generally acknowledged that stress can have a part to play in this condition, coupled with the fact that society no longer encourages convalescence after illness. In many cases the onset of the tiredness can be traced back to a viral infection in particular glandular fever leading to the term post viral fatigue syndrome.

The condition is also sometimes referred to as myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) and can be very debilitating leaving a person with very little energy an aversion to light and a reduced ability to fight infections. Whatever the label of the condition it is one that is frequently treated by herbalists.

The herbalist while treating each case individually will encourage the patients own ability to heal with the use of herbs that are anti-viral, nervine and adaptogenic to name but a few. The herbalist will monitor the patient through the recovery, making changes to the prescription when needed. Treatment is long term but patients with this condition respond well.

Herbs are typically taken as tinctures diluted in water. Dietary advice also forms an important part of the treatment.
