This was a family holiday so most of the birding was done early in the morning as, understandably, my wife didn`t want to be left in charge of our three young children on her own for most of the time.

Las Dunas across the road from the Mestral Apartments has a basic menu but great entertainment for the kids in the evening. It`s covered, has two sides open and had the added bonus for me of a pair of Spotted Flycatchers nesting in full view only a couple of feet above everyone`s heads in the canopy. It was intriguing to hear people say “Look, a Hummingbird” when it hovered in the middle of the restaurant.
