Tuesday 23 May. Didn`t manage to get up in the morning so went for an early evening stroll up the hill past the Pony Club. First bird I see is a Blue Rock Thrush sitting on the roof of the house to the right of the track. What a start ! Walking up the track I see Sardinian Warbler, Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Blackbird, House Sparrow, Nightingale, Hoopoe, Cetti`s Warbler (a surprise to me half way up a hill), and at the top an Egyptian Vulture soaring over the fields. A few minutes later a Booted Eagle was soaring nearby whilst on a bush sat a Woodchat Shrike. There were Kestrel, Spotted Flycatcher, Turtle Dove, Wood Pigeon and Raven in this area as well. Now that`s what I call a good evenings birding. I walked up the hill quite a few times and saw most of these on each occasion but it never matched this first evening. |
