Next it was down to the K6 marker on the Es Grau road and into the reserve entrance on the left. Great place for Black Winged Stilt and Little Ringed Plover. Also Little Egret but no time to look further because, as I wrote earlier, this was a family holiday and they were awaiting my return for a day out at Cala Morell which just happened to be right next to Punta de s`Escullar. Monday 29 May. Off to Cap de Cavalleria for a second attempt at Spectacled Warbler. Roughly the same birds as before apart from Red Legged Partridge but luckily for me, just as I was leaving I met the man who made the video “Birds of Menorca”. (Sorry, I can`t remember his name). He said Spectacled Warbler are normally found within 100 yards of the lighthouse to the right of the track but had not been seen this year. I inquired where I would find Alpine Swift and was told to stand on Santa Galdana beach and look out from there. On the homeward trip watched Short Toed Lark feeding on the edge of the road north of Es Mercadal and then Red Kite in the valley by Es Migjorn Gran. This valley also has Booted Eagle, Egyptian Vulture and Raven seen on numerous occasions whilst driving by, causing a whining sound from the back of the car as I stopped. Luckily it was the kids not the car. |
