William John Adams was born in about 1846. He married Ann Smith on 23 July 1865 at St Paul's Church Foleshill, and in 1881 is living in Lockhurst Lane, Foleshill and working as an elastic weaver. Ann, who was born, in Foleshill in about 1845, was a silk weaver.
They had the following children:
Ann Maria Adams, baptised on 4 November 1866 at St Paul's. Samuel J Adams, born about 1868. Ada E Adams, born about 1880.
It is inevitable that the family was affected by the industrialisation of the silk weaving industry in Foleshill in the latter half of the 19th century. This perhaps explains why both William and his family and his brother's family are shown, in 1891, to be living together in Tinsley Lane. By 1901 he has returned to silk weaving and only their daugther, Ada, who is now a working as a woolmill winder, remains at home with her parents.
