John Trevor Chaplin (Thomas Chaplin , James Chaplin , James ) was born 1834 in Smockington, Leicestershire and was christened 5 March 1834 in Burbage, Leicestershire. . John was variously employed as a Butcher, Labourer, Servant and Gardener.
John married Rebecca Adsmith Southam on 19 April 1859 in Long Lawford, Warwickshire. Rebecca was born in 1829 at Long Lawford and was christened 1829 in Newbold on Avon, Rugby. Rebecca was a Dressmaker at the time of her marriage.
They had the following children:
Mary Ann Chaplin (born 1856) Charles Richard Chaplin (1861-1891) Edward Hayes Chaplin (christened 10 Apr 1864) In 1891 Edward, then 27 was single, living with his widowed mother at Elwy Grove, Bay View Rd, Colwyn Bay and described as a shoemaker. John Thomas Chaplin and Rebecca Susan Chaplin were born 24 May 1870 in Llandudno and christened on 18 September 1870 in Llandudno. Rebecca died in March 1872.. Annie Hayes Rebecca Chaplin was born 9 October 1873 in Llandudno and was christened 15 Feb 1874 in Llandudno. She died shortly after her fourth birthday, on 21 Oct 1877, in Llandudno.
John and Rebecca moved their family to Llandudno, Wales, in around 1867-1870. Llandudno by then had gained a railway connection and became a boom town with hotels and large homes being built around the base of the Orme . People wanted to get away from the smoke of Manchester and Liverpool, some traveling daily whilst the majority only for "holidays", which prior to this time were unheard of for ordinary working folk.
John died on 14 April 1890 at Colwyn Bay, North Wales whilst Rebecca died on 22 December 1894, also at Colwyn Bay.
