John Vivian Chaplin
was born on 15 September 1887 at Idris Street, Corris, Merionethshire. A few
years later, in 1891, he was living with his parents at 12 Park Road, Colwyn
Bay. During WW1 John served as Electrician Private in the RAMC, based at Eastriggs,
Scotland. Eastriggs was a village constructed in the first war to house workers
at the nearby munitions
factory, the largest munitions factory constructed during the war. It was
here, at a dance, that John met his future wife, Margaret George Ivison
a
munitions worker living at 46 The Rand, Eastriggs.
John and Margaret married on 27 June 1918 at St John's Episcopal Church, Eastriggs.
Margaret was born on 28 October 1896 in Brechin, Scotland.
At the end of the war John brought his wife back to Colwynn Bay where in 1919
she gave birth to the first of their three children. They called their home
in Mochdre, Colwyn, "Eastriggs".

John died in June 1953 and Margaret died 11 April 1978.
