Thomas Chaplin was born in 1831 in Smockington, Leicestershire. Thomas was a farm apprentice in Rugby at the time of the 1851 Census. He later worked as a gardener but by 1881 he was a publican keeping the "The Village" at Kings Norton.
Thomas married Charlotte Welch in 1860.
They had the following children:
George Chaplin ( born 1862). Charlotte Deborah Chaplin
Charlotte died, possibly in 1873, and Thomas married Ellen Elizabeth Tongue in 1878. Ellen was born in Birmingham in 1838.
Thomas and Ellen had one child:
Thomas E Chaplin who was born in 1880.
In 1901 Thomas and Ellen are living in Kings Norton as retired publicans. Thomas Jnr is described as a hardware factory clerk.
