Dean Evans Family History

Thomas Evans  was my gggg grandfather. He was born about 1738 in Dawley and was christened on 1 October 1738 at Holy Trinity Church, Dawley Magna. The Manor Court Roll for the meeting of 24 June 1771 shows that Thomas Evans, along with John Steventon and Edward Powell, was fined for "encroachments on the Manor". A survey of 1772 shows 5 dwellings in what was later to become Hollywell Lane, Dawley, a squatter development which was extended over the years and remained until the late 1970s when it was cleared by the District Council. Many of the families, including the Evans family, lived in the Lane throughout its existence. In 1771, Thomas lived at what later became number 25. His brother Francis was at number 27.

Thomas married Jane in 1766 in Dawley. Jane was born about 1741. She was buried 28 December 1817 at Holy Trinity, Dawley Magna.

They had the following children:

Edward Evans was christened 15 Apr 1770 in Dawley.
Martha Evans was christened 26 December 1773 in Dawley.
